I just returned from Steve Harrison's event in New York, where people learned to pitch to the media. I was part of the media panel with Psychology Today, Woman's Day, Parenting and 30 other media outlets. What a great event! I met some very interesting people: I met a Pixie, a guy with the most expensive business book in the world, and a lot of other cool people. Congrats to Steve for a great event and to those who did great pitch jobs.

A lot of people do a Podcast or radio show interviews and want to know how to maximized it. Publicity is supposed to help us make money but how to you make money from the interviews you have already done? You remember what they gurus say- work once and make money over and over again from it.
I've taught a a lot about the need to do Podcasts and internet interviews but most folks do not understand what to do next. There are some specific thing you need to do to make a simple Podcast interview increase your cash flow. I'll share that on the next note.

Are Manners Not Useful on Social Networking Sites?

Usually when we decide who wants and can afford what we have we are wrong. I used to sell online golf games to people. The price was $2400, I targeted country clubs and driving ranges. When they said that they couldn't afford it, I just said maybe you have a friend who can. They normally don't want to look like their friends have a better life than they do.
And remember tire kickers can drive Mercedes

Quitting the Newsletter
I was thinking about my newsletter and wondering if people really have time to read all the newsletters they sign up for. I want to give you information you need and want without overwhelming you. You already have enough on your plate!
So I am going to try this new way. It's posted on the web, you can read it whenever you want. I'll just send you a note when we have a new post. Will that work for you?
One thing I have learned. When you are working with a strategy and the outcome you want is not happening, after a while you need to try a new strategy. Every quarter I look at one aspect of my business that is not working the way I would like and then work on changing it. That is what they mean when they say, work ON your business not IN your business. You do not always need a consultant to come into your business and help you improve. Sometimes you just need a little time to work on what does not work. Do not work harder with the strategy that does not work, change. Change your strategy.
So, tell me what you are going to work on to change?

Babyface at the Vault
Kathy King and I went down to check out Babyface in a new concert. But first
A word about the opening act.
This lady was a stunning looker of the Celine style. But her voice, oh my god....
She did this thing where the pitch went somewhere in the range of Dog hearing.
It was her thing because she did it twice in her act.
It was really not good. Forget waterboarding, have her sing like that
and anyone will tell you where the jewels are.
Babyface sang mostly his old stuff, I would have liked to hear some new stuff too but seriously, his body of work is so good, you enjoy those good songs.
When he said he was going to sing his favorite song, I thought it was going to
'ha- ha Eddie Murphy dumped you!"
but it was the song her wrote for his ex-wife when she gave birth to their oldest son Brandon.
I nice song but clearly one that only had meaning for him
He is still a great show, I am going on Itunes to see what the new stuff sounds like.

Website Makeovers for TEA

Bridging Heart and Marketing
Last weekend I visited my friend Donna Fox, author of FRom Credit Repair to Credit Millionaire in Los Angeles. She was a speaker for Judith adh Jims Heart and Marketing Internet Marketing Conference.
Jim and Judith taught tandem at the end of the seminar, it was great.
I loved the way they present! For people who are spiritual entrepreneurs but need
information on how to market yet stay in their integrity, I think this is it.
I learned a lot from their session. I also met Greg Cesar and Heidi Nabert and Danny Guspie ( they have a podcast I used to listen to!)
You never know what can happen when you get out and meet people.
Also last weekend, Don and Melinda Boyer had their first event at the Real Life Teaching Center in Whittier. I was also a speaker at that event.
It's a lovely facility, looks very nice and smells great in there all the time.
DVD's of that event will be available soon, so I'll let you know.
You need to invest in your education every quarter at least. Many people go to several events each month. Set aside some money to go and to events, network and
learn! Thats how you grow a business.

I forgot about Ryze
In my post before I talked about the networking sites I belonged to.
I forgot about Ryze. My experience there is that I got a lot of dumb emails
and there was no place for business. However, I have a business associate who uses Ryze on a limited basis and it worked to bring in clients.
I may need to revisit Ryze.

Social Networking Sites for Business? Can You Make Money?
Ojeez.com- I belong but only get invitations from guys over 60. I am not sure what I am attracting there but It's not working for business.
Fast PItch- This site was recommended to me by my friend Maria Simone. She pointed out that you can have unlimited news releases, I used that feature a lot. I also met a great person who was on the show. Helene Wasserman- visit www.wrightplacetv.com to see it online.
They also have a webinar on how to use it.
My space- I only have about 15 friends on there,2 of which I actually converse with on a fairly regular basis. My audience is not on my space, and clearly, my friends aren't either.
Twitter- a time waster, I am not sure anyone is fascinated with what I am doing.
Plaxo- my contacts there communicate well, good dialogs happen when I participated in a poll and then made comments. Its simple and I don't get an email from them every 5 minutes. Maybe the blue is soothing to me.
Linked in- you can ask a questions that experts will answer.Thats a cool feature. They tell you how many people looked at your profile and how many times you came up in their search.I enjoy answering questions online, but I dont think I have really worked LINKED in well.
Facebook- honestly I dont know what the deal is with them. I could not register my name- so I am in there as Lacy Wright, needless to say, I hardly use that. I do belong to a group on there but they are from a different country and might thing Lacy is my nick name. It's not... so don't call me that. I tried to correct it by sending a letter to admin, and no answer came. I guess it's free 'cause there is no customer service.
Digg- I just joined to post to someone else's blog. I have not really used it or DUGG other people's site. I'll have to read more on it.
Monkey Brain- I started a fight, we'll see who comes, so far, nobody! I guess it wasn't an extraordinary position to take but we'll see.
Squidoo- I worked on my site there a little more, my lens is about the show. I am not sure that anyone who has ever talked to me has seen that lens. But for some reason, I have a not so bad ranking on that site. I am not passionate about it, but it's another site that can point back to yours.
Meet UP- every meet up meeting was canceled so I never participated and now have lost interest because my personal vision has changed. I am not longer interested in just local events.
SO bottom line, for me, money is being made at Fast Pitch
I am sure I belong to a few more I have forgotten about but thats fine, If I come across them, I blog about it.

Golden Tickets for everyone
I just finished Golden Ticket by Burchard. Interesting book, kinda, sorta
Ok, I was not memorized by the storyline but I did learn specificially 2 things that
the author was not including in the theme. He added the information to explain what he was talking about. But, it gave me a clue to some other information
I was looking for. It was worth it for that reason.
I am an avid reader so I read the book in 2 days.
But thats just my style.
Reading - I love reading and I love books so as long as I learn one
thing, I have not wasted my time

Hidden Profits in Gift Cards- Shame on Walmart!
Walmart sold Millions of dollars in gift cards for the holidays.
But, when people came to stores in buy stuff on sale after christmas
they could not use those gifts cards because Wal mart could not process them.
Hmmmm, I do not buy this. They now have millions of dollars that people can not spend.
They made people pay cash or credit.
Getting a gift card for your business could be a great move.
25% of gift cards are never used, so its free money.
Walmart now has free money and is also making interest on that money
in their bank. I think your business would do well if people just came by and
gave you money and you never had to provide a product or service.
Shame on Walmart for scamming people who are already financially
strapped.
Their PR people have had no comment. That is not good.
If your business has a mistake, you should have a reason articulated by
someone trained for the media to talk about it. I think this mistake will
help Walmart make the profit they need this year.
We'll see how this plays out, I wonder if anyone will questions it.

If You Dont Stop Using Free Emails Now, You will hate yourself later!
Pet Peeve.
Someone has a business and a website , they email me or hand me their business card.
Their website says: www.xxxx.com but their email is hotmail, yahoo, msn or gmail.com
HELLO?
if you have a website, then you should have an email address that goes with the website!
Keep your free emails for your junk mail but in business use your website email.
It's called branding. And Frankly, why are you advertising aol, yahoo, gmail, or hotmail for free? They are not paying you, but you are giving them space on your business card!
Stop it people, just stop it right now.
It does not help your branding and it shows me you have not really learned enough about marketing.

Publicity is a tricky area for small business. You may not have a lot of money to spend yet you need big results. You may have a nice size budget but are not sure where to spend it to make the most impact. A small business owner cannot event get advice without paying high fees. Here are 9 things you must do to make business. Start from here and move your business forward!
1. Get a real news release written by a professional. Many copy writers will tell you they write news releases. If they were good at it, they would be in publicity, not copy writing. Being a good at copywriting does not automatically make you a good publicity writer, just like being a good driver does not make you a good NASCAR driver. Get a pro and pay the fees for them.
2. Make sure your news releases are going out locally on a regular basis. Your local media should know about your first, keep them in the loop. That will help you spring to regional and national prominence.
3. Create events. Not just a sale, or the tired “you buy my stuff and I will give some money to charity”, do something worth talking about. Impress the media. Unless you are giving large sums of money to a charity, the media doesn’t care and the public doesn’t believe you.
4. Let your entire staff know about the publicity going out and what their response should be. Nothing is more frustrating than calling to get more information and no one knows what is going on.
5. Recycle some publicity during the year. You can repackage some things and use them for a new season, holiday or event.
6. Pay Per Interviews are not all bad. People use to tell you never pay for an interview. In today’s competitive world, you may need that edge. Do some due diligence and check out the source then make the most of it be leveraging someone else’s network with a paid interview.
7. Set aside some money from your marketing budget to get your publicity done
8. Create a mastermind group with other businesses for publicity ideas

2007 Mothers Day for Women Entrepreneurs
A mom who has her own business faces an incredible challenge. Use a Robot for Publicity
Tokyo-based Ubiquitous Exchange developed a robot called “Ubiko”. It answers questions, and welcome visitors. You can actually rent this robot for $445. They are testing them in a hospital located in central Japan. The manager stated “If we look at these robots as advertising and public relations businesses, the price is quite cheap, actually.”

Mel Gibson is Thankful for Michael Richards this holiday!
His comedy routine turned into a horrible vat
of racist stew. I have enjoyed his comedy in the
past but now, I will never look at him the same.
You can argue about using the N word. But when you
start referring to the fact that he could lynch you
if it was 50 years ago is sad. If you have not seen the
actual event, you can see it all on Youtube
So let's talk PR...
You messed up, you messed up bad and now you gather the
troops to help you face the music.
Was it a good move to get his good friend Seinfield to
ease the pathway to an apology on Letterman?
How do you convey a sincere apology?
Was this an act to get him back in the headlines because
basically nothing is going on with him now?
I think he made a good PR move when he asked Seinfield to
pave the way for him to get on TV to say he was sorry.
When you have done something wrong and the media has it,
you have to address it.
Also let this be a lesson to use all, there are always cameras
somewhere...
Personally I was offended and I think it revealed a lot of
what he really thinks and says in his private life. So I will
never watch him or pay to see his comedy again ( yes I have in the past)
However, most of Hollywood has a short memory and I think
he will be back to work soon.

I have been to a few meetings where
the people do not understand blogging.
What is it really?
The best thing about blogging is that you can
start a conversation and go back and forth.
The readers (usually) can read and then respond
in writing. They can even leave their link on the blog
Everyone knows it is important to have your website
linked to others, and blogs are a fast easy way to do it.
It is so important, people even have robots on the web
that respond and put their link up. You can spot it because
it's usually the link that says "Love your website, check

I do not use a robot, I just wanted a chance to link to my site!
There is no response to what was written and no real
thoughts there. But if you want to communicate this is a

People often ask for an explanation of Marketing.
Perhaps the following analogies will help clear it

Entrepreneurs are liars
I read Guy Kawasaki’s blog, and have
Been reading his books for years.
The lies told by women business owners are
even worse than Men.
You can read the entire blog and the blog
that makes a good comment, but here is my take on them.
Lies told on advertising and PR
1. Our projections are conservative-
Projections are fortune telling.
2. We only have to get 1 % of the market.
If that is all you want, you do not need to do any advertising or PR
Hopefully you have higher goals for yourself and plan for more than 1% of a particular market.
If you do, you need to get some real Publicity in place that works.
And for those of you who do not bother to pay a professional to write your news releases, stop it, just stop it.
When it’s poorly written and not in the correct form, you wasted your time and the media’s time and after a while, they won’t read anything you send because they know its garbage.

Grey's Anatomy- Great PR move!
The 2 main actors on Grey's Anatomy got into a fight on set!
So says sources like New York Daily News and National Inquirer.
It was also seen on all the TV tabloids.
The claim Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington have had a
private feud going on for a while.
What I find interesting is that the news of the feud comes
on the heels of news that they beat #1 CSI in the ratings.
I Think they are taking their few minutes of fame and making it
last even longer. They made #1, now what else can they talk about?
That is our job with our business, what else do you want to tell
people about? How will you communicate this to your core marketing group?

Morgan Freeman's Book Signing Party
Morgan Freeman's New Cook book which benefits
the rebuilding of Grenada was a food filled event.
Instead of just signing the book, the Executive
Chef of the Four Seasons hotel also made some of
the dishes from the cook book for everyone to taste.
And yes, that was some great food. Ben Vereen and
Ben Affleck ( sans wife and baby) were also there
to lend their support. The swag was great. Also
Harry J Linnex ( the Matrix) was there to support the event.
The proceeds from the book to go charity for Greneda
Island.
Anyone writing a book that involves food, should
has samples of the food. You do not need a
famous chef, but what better way to promote
the book. Take this good idea and use it for
publicity.

AMAZON.com is the worst with customer service!!!
The saga starts with my buying an book online. I orderd the book as a downloadable file, it comes as a .EDT file
EDT?? what is that? Where is my PDF book?? Even my computer doesnt know what
is is and I figure I should call and see what is going on.
I call for help ( call number one- keep track)
and tell them, they look and the system and say,
something is wrong and they will but in an order to fix it.
I hang up.
But I have a funny feeling and a few hours later I call.
Call #2: I am calling because I have been unable to download by
digital book. She says, someone took a call from you but did
not order anyone to do anything about it, She will ask that
department to look into it.
I get an email saying I can download my book now, but its still an EDT
file so, I really cant.
Call #3: I cant download the book, its been 3 days, She says I
must wait 24 hours to 48 hours for an answer from their IT department
CAll #4: I get an email saying I have to 48 hours from TODAY FOR THE
IT Department to fix this problem. I call and tell them I want a refund
forget the book, it doesnt work and clearly you cant fix it
The next day I get an email saying, since it was a digital product
and I already downloaded it, it will take 7-10 BUSINESS
DAYS to refund my $14.97
HERE IS the actual LEtter!

Lieberman Productions, a top infomercial production company, is looking for real Proactiv Solution customers ages 18-55, of all ethnicities, to appear as audience members in a celebrity shoot for a new infomercial for Proactiv Solution. If chosen, qualified applicants will receive FREE Proactiv Solution product and the possibility to share their Proactiv story on television.
Applicants must be true users of Proactiv Soultion product, live in the Los Angeles area, and be available to attend an all-day shoot in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 4th.

AOL and Yahoo charge for email
COMPANIES will soon have to buy the electronic equivalent of a postage stamp if they want to be certain their emails are delivered.
America Online and Yahoo!, two of the largest email account providers, are about to start using a system that gives preference to messages from companies that pay up to US1¢ each to have them delivered. The senders must promise to contact only people who have agreed to receive their messages or risk being blocked.
The internet companies say this will help them identify legitimate mail and reduce junk email, identity-theft scams and other scourges that plague users. They also will earn millions of dollars a year if the system is widely adopted.
AOL and Yahoo! will still accept email from senders who have not paid, but the paid messages will be given special treatment. On AOL, for example, they will go straight to users' main mailboxes and will not have to pass the gauntlet of spam filters
Now my question is , who has any IMPORTANT email going to
yahoo? my yahoo address is a throw away, I dotn care if its spam in there
I am only going to look at the email when I am
bored

anyone who doesnt pay the fee will automatically
go to the spam filter and not get through.
It will be an interesting experiment but
