What is Marketing and PR?

I came across some great examples to explain marketing and public relations

This comes from Halley's Comment.

MARKETING 101 for Ladies

People often ask for an explanation of Marketing.

Perhaps the following analogies will help clear it
up:

You see a handsome guy at a party.
You go up to him and say, "I'm fantastic in bed."
That's Direct Marketing.

You're at a party with a bunch of friends and see a
handsome guy.
One of your friends goes up to him and pointing at
you says, "she's fantastic in bed."
That's Advertising.

You see a handsome guy at a party.
You go up to him and get his telephone number.
The next day you call and say, "Hi, I'm fantastic in
bed."
That's Telemarketing.

You're at a party and see a handsome guy.
You get up and, Give eye contact.
You walk up to him and pour him a drink.
You say, "May I..." and reach up to kiss him, and then
say, "By the way, I'm fantastic in bed."
That's Public Relations.

You're at a party and see a handsome guy.
He walks up to you and says, "I hear you're
fantastic in bed."
That's Brand Recognition.

You're at a party and see a handsome guy.
You talk him into going home with your friend.
That's a Sales Rep.

Your friend can't satisfy him so he calls you.
That's Tech Support.

You're on your way to a party when you realize that
there could be handsome men in all these houses
you're passing.
So you climb onto the roof of one situated toward
the center and shout at the top of your lungs, "I'm
fantastic in bed!"
That's Spam

Entrepreneurs are liars

I read Guy Kawasaki’s blog, and have
Been reading his books for years.
The lies told by women business owners are
even worse than Men.

You can read the entire blog and the blog
that makes a good comment
, but here is my take on them.
Lies told on advertising and PR
1. Our projections are conservative-
Projections are fortune telling.
2. We only have to get 1 % of the market.
If that is all you want, you do not need to do any advertising or PR
Hopefully you have higher goals for yourself and plan for more than 1% of a particular market.

If you do, you need to get some real Publicity in place that works.
And for those of you who do not bother to pay a professional to write your news releases, stop it, just stop it.

When it’s poorly written and not in the correct form, you wasted your time and the media’s time and after a while, they won’t read anything you send because they know its garbage.

Grey's Anatomy- Great PR move!

The 2 main actors on Grey's Anatomy got into a fight on set!
So says sources like New York Daily News and National Inquirer.
It was also seen on all the TV tabloids.
The claim Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington have had a
private feud going on for a while.

What I find interesting is that the news of the feud comes
on the heels of news that they beat #1 CSI in the ratings.

I Think they are taking their few minutes of fame and making it
last even longer. They made #1, now what else can they talk about?

That is our job with our business, what else do you want to tell
people about? How will you communicate this to your core marketing group?

If you are trying to reach Women business owners in the Southern
California then you need to be in the Wright Place
Call me and I will tell you how to get on the show.

What do you think? Real fight or just a publicity stunt?

Morgan Freeman's Book Signing Party

Morgan Freeman's New Cook book which benefits
the rebuilding of Grenada was a food filled event.
Instead of just signing the book, the Executive
Chef of the Four Seasons hotel also made some of
the dishes from the cook book for everyone to taste.
And yes, that was some great food. Ben Vereen and
Ben Affleck ( sans wife and baby) were also there
to lend their support. The swag was great. Also
Harry J Linnex ( the Matrix) was there to support the event.
The proceeds from the book to go charity for Greneda
Island.

Anyone writing a book that involves food, should
has samples of the food. You do not need a
famous chef, but what better way to promote
the book. Take this good idea and use it for
publicity.

This Blog Content Will Change

Next month I will launch new topics on the blog..
The content will change, there are other things
I want to talk about on this
blog, other than how to get on TV Shows.

Advertising and PR on television seems to be this no mans land where
the average person cant get on. There are new things happening and
ways to get your message out to the people who want what you have.
I think I want to talk about that, blog about that.

I would love for you to post what you would like to talk about!

Warmly,

Dr. Wright
